Molly was an amazing young woman, and this is her story...
May of 2011 she graduated from Buffalo State College with academic honors and a degree in Hospitality and Tourism. She played lacrosse at Buffalo State and was named captain of the team for 2 years.
After graduation Molly moved to San Clemente, CA to experience a true California beach town life. She worked 3 jobs to pay the rent but it was worth it to live in such a beautiful place.
Unfortunately that dream came to a sudden and abrupt halt when she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in October 2011. Ewing Sarcoma is a somewhat rare and fast growing cancer. Molly's tumor was in her left calf.
Molly chose to stay in California for treatments at one of the best cancer centers in the state, UCI Irvine. From November 2011 to April 2012 Molly had chemotherapy with the hope that the chemo would shrink the tumor enough to have surgery. In May 2012 she had surgery and the remaining tumor was removed. The surgery was deemed a success in that all the cancerous tumor was removed. Unfortunately a month after surgery she learned that the cancer had spread to her lungs and there was another tumor behind her left knee. Also as a result of the surgery she had a ulcerated heel and a wound in her incision that wasn't healing. More aggressive chemo was started and after 2 weeks of this chemo she ended up in the hospital due to severe side effects from the chemo. Because chemo decreases the body's ability to heal, her surgery related wounds were not healing and she got infections which caused her again to be hospitalized. At this point she is being cared for by some of the most amazing Drs. who truly care about her. She has bravely endured some of the most painful procedures. This is not the life she planned but the life she has been given and she is fighting this with all her heart . Her friends and family have been such an amazing support for her that without them this would have been so much harder to endure. Her employer,The San Juan Golf&Country Club, was so supportive of her and her work limitations. They allowed her to work when she was able and were very flexible with her schedule. She truly thanks you all.
In October Molly did move back to NY to be closer to family and friends and will continue her treatment at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
On March 2, 2013 Molly lost her fight to cancer. She is missed dearly by all her friends and family. She is remembered by everyone for her amazing and kind hearted spirit.
